Art History and the Museum of Western Folklore: A Commemorative Speech  (performance)

Art History and the Museum of Western Folkore: A Commemorative Speech
7 October, 2012 at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

The performance Art History and the Museum of Western Folkore: A Commemorative Speech is a collaboration between artist Sara van der Heide and writer Moosje Goosen, comprising two components. "Art History" is a slide projection of red, black and white abstract drawings that evoke visual associations with images of modernism, abstract expressionism, so called ‘primitive art’, applied arts and feminism. The projection is accompanied by a live narration of "The Museum of Western Folklore", a story about remembrance, mnemonic - and memorial devices, such as the (cerebral) memory palace and the (physical) museum. Both works intend to bring the viewer/listener into a meditative state of mind where divisions imposed upon us by history – between distinct domains of culture, between cultures, between various –isms in art – are made to collapse. -
